Tumblarity sucks, for the same reason thermostats and app store approval suck
The mental model the user constructs doesn’t map accurately to how it actually behaves. Tumblarity is unpredictable. I post a bunch of stuff, it gets reblogged and liked more than my stuff usually does and then 4 hours later I’ve dropped by 100 magic tumblarity points.
I’m sticking by my belief that introducing game systems destroys communities, no matter how cool it now is. A game system is great, if it’s explained to the user up front and the rules are clear and comprehensible. Tumblarity is neither of these.
[This is a bit ranty and unstructured. I’ve not solidified my thoughts on when and where game systems should be used or avoided enough to explain it to others.]
